Natural Remedies for Bruises:

It is not uncommon for children as well as adults to get bruised. There are some people who get bruised less, but there are others who bruise easily. For both, bruises are painful and even downright ugly if they occur in the wrong place.

When the bruise is still fresh, the skin tends to become a little tender. It becomes a little swollen, changes color to blue or purple and is extremely painful to touch. As time passes, the color of the bruise further changes to appear darker. The good news is, that a bruise heals with time and there’s nothing much to worry about unless you have a cut or a gash along with the bruise. The risk of infection only occurs when the skin is broken and the flesh is exposed.

When the injury is still fresh, it should be quickly treated. The sooner first aid is given to it, the less painful it will be and the sooner it will heal. The first thing to do when you get bruised is to apply a cold compress to the bruised area. Get a bag of ice or just wrap your handkerchief or a soft cloth around some ice. Apply it to the affected area and keep moving the compress to cover the entire surface area of the bruise. The cold compress would begin to heal bruise and reduce bruise swelling by soothing the torn muscles. A couple of hours after you have applied cold compress, you can use heating pads on your bruise. The heating pad helps the muscles relax and regain their original shape. It will help to subside the swelling as well as reduce the pain.

If you have bruised yourself on your limbs and the bruise is a big one, lie down in a manner that your bruised limb is elevated. For example, if you have bruised your leg, prop your leg up on some pillows so that blood does not begin to clot in the bruise and natural blood flow is maintained.
If the pain is not subsiding, you can take an analgesic. However avoid medications that slow down the blood clotting since it will prolong any bleeding. You can also take arnica to relieve the pain. You can apply comfrey tea on your bruise. The tea will prevent further discoloration of the bruise and will also help reduce pain. Apple cider vinegar, a natural bactericide, can be applied if there is a cut or a gash on your bruise. Dilute the vinegar in some water before applying it. You may also take some mullein flowers and boil it in olive oil. Cool the oil and then apply on the bruise when still lukewarm.
